[Boddington pits]
At Boddington: - After a relaxing afternoon in Perth on the afternoon of Sunday 10 November, the ongoing group awoke early and assembled in the foyer of their hotel where they were joined by new starters and rejoined by another who had taken other visits earlier in the tour. They departed Perth by charter minibus soon after 07:00 am and were driven south to Boddington to arrive before 09:00 am. On arrival, they were taken to overview the South Pit (left image, looking south) and have the main geological and structural features pointed out. Subsequently, they were given an overview presentation in the mine office detailing the regional to mine scale setting, geology, structure, alteration and mineralisation of the deposit. They were also guided through a series of selected drill core intersections traversing the deposit by mine geologists, as well as a similar overview of the North Pit (left image, looking north), followed by the opportunity to study the main lithologies and mineralisation on an ore stockpile. By now it was mid afternoon. The group thanked their Boddington hosts for their time and effort in providing an interesting visit and the chance to study one of Australia's great gold deposits. Soon after they departed and returned to Perth by late afternoon, eating a late lunch in the minibus en route. They arrived just in time for the Welcome Reception for the NewGenGold 2019 Conference.       Image by Mike Porter.
