Copyright Laws & Restrictions

PGC Publishing and Porter GeoConsultancy Pty Ltd, (PGC) hold a copyright licence granted by Copyright Agency Limited (CAL), the official issuer within Australia of statutory licences for copying printed material by government departments, educational institutions and other organisations. CAL has reciprocal arrangements with other similar national copyright management agencies around the world for international distribution of royalties.

Under the terms of our copyright licence, as determined by Australian and International copyright laws and regulations, the following limitations must be enforced:

Copyright Fees - PGC is required to levy and pay to the copyright licence issuer a royalty for each paper (irrespective of the number of pages), for on-forwarding to the copyright owner of each such paper.   This levy is charged according to the type of purchaser.   Only three types of purchaser are recognised, namely:  i). Education and not-for-profit organisations,  ii). Government agencies, and  iii). Corporations and all other clients.

Limitations - The following limits are placed on copies that may be provided to a client on any one order, namely:
i). Books - whichever is greater of, a). one chapter, or b). 10% of the number of pages in the book.
ii). Journals - not more than one article from an individual issue, unless articles relate to the same subject matter, eg. several articles on porphyry copper deposits in the same issue of a journal is permitted, but not an article on a gold deposit and another on a zinc orebody.   However, these latter two articles may be provided on separate orders.
iii). Exceptions - the above limits do not apply to works to which a). PGC Publishing owns the copyright, -or- b). PGC Publishing or the purchaser has obtained written approval to reproduce from the copyright owners -or- c). an original of that work cannot be obtained from the normal supplier within 30 days for reasons such as it is out of print.

Form of copy - reproduction may only be made by photocopying, printing, typing or by hand, but does not include conversion to electronic or digital form for the purpose of network database storage or retrieval, nor the electronic storage, retransmission, modification or manipulation, except as a single copy facsimile transmission (i.e., we can only provide hard copies).

Re-publishing - we may not advertise and/or sell a specific collection of papers as a bound volume.   This is re-publishing and is prohibited.   While we may supply any number of papers in response to an order, each paper is sold as an individual item.   Any subsequent binding of a group of papers by, or for, the purchaser is a separate binding service provided in response to a request by the purchaser.

Further copying - further copying or transmission by the client is not permitted unless that client is licenced to do so under a recognised copyright licence or has the permission of the copyright owner of the work.
