The Yangliuping and Zhengziyanwuo Ni-Cu-PGE sulphide deposits are located in the Yangliuping district of Sichuan Province in south-western China.

These depsoits are hosted by mafi-ultramafic sills of Permian age, which are sub-volcanic intrusions related to the Dashibao Basalt, part of the extensive Emeishal continental flood basalt of the Emeishan Igneous Province which covers an area of up to 0.5 million sq. km and is from several hundred to 5000 m thick.

The mineralised sills are exposed in the core of a dome surrounded by the overlying basalts and are from 200 to 300 m thick with exposed strike lengths of 1 to 2 km.   They are now composed principally of serpentinite, talc schist, tremolite schist and meta-gabbro and intrude Devonian carbonaceous marble and graphitic schist.

Ni-Cu mineralisation is found as disseminations in the lower parts of the serpentinite, with massive sulphides at the base of the sill and in the footwall, filling fractures below the serpentinite.

The sulphides show relict cumulate textures, although they have been subsequently strongly modified by hydrothermal alteration.

The massive sulphides occur as lenses with lengths of up to 200 m, widths of <40 m and thicknesses of 0.2 to 0.3 m with 85 to 95% sulphides, mainly pyrrhotite and pentlandite with chalcopyrite increasing towards the margins where it can be up to 30%.

Around 95% of the resource is present as disseminations, which in the two deposits are each around 1000 m long, usually around or <80 m (but locally >100 m) thick with 20 to 30% sulphides (from top to base).   The disseminated sulphides average 70% pyrrhotite, 10 to 20% pentlandite and <20% chalcopyrite.

The massive ores average 1.2 to 4.18 wt% Ni, 0.02 to 0.1 wt% Co, 0.54 to 0.67 wt% Cu, 1.75 to 3.53 g/t PGE.

The average grade of disseminated sulphides is around 0.24 to 1.16 wt% Ni, 0.01 to 0.04 wt% Co, 0.08 to 0.44 wt% Cu, 0.22 to 1.54 g/t PGE.
