The East Kemptville greisen tin deposit is located in south-western Nova Scotia Canada, some 25 km north-east of the town of Yarmouth (#Location: 44° 6' 11"N, 65° 40' 55"W).

During its period of operation from 1985 to 1992 it was the only primary tin mine in North America and one of the largest in the world.

The deposit is located within the 300 x 60 km South Mountain Batholith which covers much of the southern half of Nova Scotia.   The Davis Lake Pluton, principally a biotite monzogranite, lies within this larger batholith near its south-western tip.   The tin mineralization at East Kemptville occurs within an apophysy of this pluton into quartzites belonging to the Goldenville Formation of the Cambro-Ordovician Meguma Group.   The deposit comprises a 1500 x 500 m zone of sericitised and greisenised leucogranite composed principally of quartz, topaz and muscovite with associated sulphides.

In detail, the greisen contains quartz, pyrite, plagioclase (albite), pyrrhotite, orthoclase, sphalerite, muscovite, fluorite, topaz, chalcopyrite, cassiterite and arsenopyrite, with lesser galena, beryl, triplite, molybdenite, vivianite, marcasite, wolframite, dickite, calcite, stilbite, dolomite, fluorapatite, rhodocrosite, siderite and apatite.

The deposit was stated to have contained 56 Mt of ore, although before closure due to low tin prices, it produced 18.8 Mt of ore (from a total of 26.7 Mt tonnes of waste+ore) at a head grade of 0.18% Sn to yield 21 331 tonnes of contained tin, 1582 tonnes of contained copper, 2009 tonnes of contained zinc and 2.139 tonnes of contained silver, all in concentrates.

Remaining NI 43-101 compliant mineral resources as at October 2014, at a 0.1% Sn cutoff were: (Avalon Rare Metals, Inc.):
    Indicated resource - 18.47 Mt @ 0.176% Sn, 0.173% Zn, 0.064% Cu;
    Inferred resource - 16.95 Mt @ 0.148% Sn, 0.122% Zn, 0.062% Cu.
